Anokye and the Creation of the Asante is a children's book of rhymes that forms part of a bigger art and film project which is headed up by Akua Ofosuhene. The Anokye story is enchanting and exciting and Akua's collection of projects surrounding the story stretch far and wide - check out http://anokyestories.blogspot.com/ for more info. I came on board when Louise asked me to illustrate the rhymes that she had written from Akua's original story. Reading the tale conjured up loads of imagery and it was so exciting to hit the drawing board and come up with page upon page of pictures to help bring the story to life.
The most exciting part is that these pages are now winging their way to the publishers in Ghana and we're hoping to find it in print in the shops by Christmas! This is the first published book I have ever been involved in producing and it's so exciting to imagine we will actually be able to hold it in our hands in the not to distant future!!
To be honest I will miss working with these characters who have been my closest contacts over the past months, and it has been quite strange to emerge out of Anokye's world after spending morning til night with them every day! But all the more exciting to get on with the next one, spending your days with fictional characters has got to be up there as one of the best jobs :)
