Editing Showreel

So we've started work on the next book! GWYN - is a Welsh folk story, Louise has been working away on the script and it's really looking great now. It's based on 'the Lady in the Lake'. The lake is actually in the Black Mountains so hoping to take a trip up there in the next few weeks to walk up to the lake and do some first hand picture research. I've started sketching for the characters and am enjoying getting stuck into it!

Other than that I've been working on my logos and identity for my editing work, cutting my showreel and designing DVD cover and disk artwork for it...

Anokye and the Creation of the Asante

Anokye and the Creation of the Asante is a children's book of rhymes that forms part of a bigger art and film project which is headed up by Akua Ofosuhene. The Anokye story is enchanting and exciting and Akua's collection of projects surrounding the story stretch far and wide - check out http://anokyestories.blogspot.com/ for more info.

I came on board when Louise asked me to illustrate the rhymes that she had written from Akua's original story. Reading the tale conjured up loads of imagery and it was so exciting to hit the drawing board and come up with page upon page of pictures to help bring the story to life.

The most exciting part is that these pages are now winging their way to the publishers in Ghana and we're hoping to find it in print in the shops by Christmas! This is the first published book I have ever been involved in producing and it's so exciting to imagine we will actually be able to hold it in our hands in the not to distant future!!

To be honest I will miss working with these characters who have been my closest contacts over the past months, and it has been quite strange to emerge out of Anokye's world after spending morning til night with them every day! But all the more exciting to get on with the next one, spending your days with fictional characters has got to be up there as one of the best jobs :)

Keep your eye out for the coming of this book, you will not be disappointed!

Owen Henry Animation for Bristol Bus Boycott Project

Firstborn Studios have asked me to produce an animation to go with a piece of audio that Mary (Project Manager) recorded in an interview with Owen Henry about the Bristol Bus Boycott.

The 1963 Bus Boycott leapt out of the work of the Civil Rights Movement in America and saw British and Caribbean Black people standing up for the rights here in Bristol by boycotting the segregated buses.

It is so great to be able to be involved in this project in which Firstborn are bringing back to life the stories of the people who were involved in the movement.  Here are a few stills from the animation:

This animation tells the story of the experiences of Owen Henry when he first arrived in Bristol in the 60s, in his own words. For more information on the Bristol Bus Boycott project have a look at www.firstborn-studios.co.uk.

8 kings..

So the first chapter of the animation is done, it's not actually the first in the story, just the first one I've done - have a look on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28vSNGE_TDw

Here's some stills from the scene...

Now I'm looking forward to starting work on a scene with Anokye himself! However something really exciting has happened, we recently had a call from Akua who has found a publisher for the book! So the animation will have to go on hold for a little while as we go full steam ahead on the illustrations for Anokye and the Creation of the Asante!

8 Kings...

When Louise came back from Ghana she brought with her the story of Anokye which was written by Akua Ofosuhene and which Louise had turned into a story in rhyme. She was keen to bring the story out as a children's picture book and she asked me to work on the illustrations and an accompanying animation for the piece.

So I've started work on the animation, I having a great time working with the characters and finding out more about the story and the overall Anokye project - here's some of the kings I've been working on...
